Previous Youth Commissioners

Wasim was part of the first cohort of Youth Commissioners in the West Midlands, representing Sandwell in 2014.

After serving as a Youth Commissioner he became the Chair of the Sandwell Shadow Youth Cabinet and later the Chair of UK Youth Voice, which works with more than 800,000 young people to get them active in youth participation through voluntary opportunities.

Wasim has worked with 10 Downing Street, speaking up for young people at various events including in the House of Lords and the European Parliament in Strasburg.

In 2018 he was elected as a Councillor for the Smethwick ward in Sandwell. He served as Cabinet Member for Core Services & Resources and also served as Deputy Leader of the council.

In 2025, Wasim was appointed as Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, after serving as the Assistant PCC from 2021-24.

Yazmin represented Coventry as a Youth Commissioner in 2016, she has since obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. Yazmin joined the Office of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner in 2021 and currently manages the Youth Commissioner programme.
