Every year an external organisation scrutinises and checks the work, finances and governance of West Midlands Police and West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.

It provides an opinion on whether the financial statements present a fair view, and whether they have been prepared in accordance with the appropriate regulations and proper professional practices.  In addition from 2020/21 external audit produces an annual report detailing their opinion on the overall arrangements in relation to value for money as well as key recommendations.

The results of this audit are contained with the annual audit letter. This summarises the key findings and makes recommendations.
