In response to reports of sexual harassment in hotels where lone women are quarantining, the West Midlands Victims’ Commissioner Nicky Brennan, said: “I’ve been shocked and appalled by the stories of harassment and intimidation towards women forced to quarantine in UK hotels after returning from abroad.

“No woman should be made to feel uncomfortable or scared simply for following Covid guidelines.

“Whilst I’m pleased the government has acknowledged that women forced to stay in a hotel room for a set period of time should be guarded by female guards, I’m gobsmacked that the government thinks that if a female guard is unavailable then two male guards are a good alternative.

“This couldn’t be further from the truth and the move is both short sighted and naïve. I fear it will only exacerbate the problem.”
