Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster has urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to work with him to resolve the situation surrounding the Aston Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv match.

He said: “The Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, Simon Foster, said:

“The safety and security of all the people and communities of the West Midlands, including visitors to the West Midlands, is my top priority. That is absolute, unconditional and non-negotiable.

“I have written to the Prime Minister, to update him on the action being taken and inviting him to work with the SAG, WMP and myself, to resolve this matter, including the provision of additional resources from Government for WMP.

“I am aware that, in accordance with my request, consideration is actively being given to the convening of a Special SAG, at the earliest possible opportunity, so that an immediate review can be conducted.

“I am still awaiting a reply from the SAG and WMP, in connection with my request for immediate sight of the relevant background documentation, that informed the decision of the SAG.

“I am committed to working collectively, with the aim of resolving this matter, in a way that can work for all interested parties.”
