| Reason for Authority (Brief Summary for Publication) |
| Following a number of recent violent incidents happening in and around the area, this Section 60 has been authorised to prevent further violence and allow for searches of individuals believed to be linked to threats of violence. #We will be using Section 60 powers in parts of Birmingham this evening and overnight. These powers allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds. This follows recent serious incidents we’re investigating, including a firearms discharge and Section 18 wounding earlier in January. The powers will be in place in the area on the map, from 7pm today (Saturday) until 3am tomorrow morning (Sunday). As always, our main focus is on keeping everyone safe. Find out more about Stop and Search: Stop and search | West Midlands Police We’ll continue to have an increased presence in the area to offer reassurance to the local community. |
