West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Simon Foster and Chief Constable Craig Guildford have officially opened Dudley’s new police station, marking a significant moment for policing in the borough.
The state-of-the-art facility, located at Castlegate House on Castlegate Way, replaces the former Brierley Hill police station as the borough’s police headquarters and serves as a tangible delivery on the PCC’s commitment to return a main police station to Dudley town centre.
PCC Simon Foster, who owns all West Midlands Police buildings, has overseen delivery of the acquisition and conversion of the former insurance call centre into a fully functioning police station. The complex work was completed in just five months and includes vital safety and security systems, a new victim care suite, interview rooms and a public contact office for face-to-face access and assistance for the general public.
Speaking at the official opening, PCC Simon Foster emphasised the significance of the achievement for the community.

“This is welcome news for Dudley,” he said. “I committed to delivering a new, modern police station for the town, and I am now delivering on that commitment, exactly as I pledged to do. This is part of my plan to rebuild community policing, to ensure we have an accessible, reassuring and visible police presence.
“This new facility will be fit for 21st century policing and will serve as a vital hub for police officers and staff, including local neighbourhood and response teams. It will be a crucial point of contact for the public, and it will ensure the police have the resources they need to prevent and tackle crime and keep people and communities, throughout the Dudley Local Policing Area, safe and secure.”
The new site is now operational, housing neighbourhood teams, emergency response officers, offender managers, intelligence teams and more. Officers and staff began their phased move on Monday, November 17, with the public contact office opening on Thursday (November 20).
Brierley Hill neighbourhood teams, meanwhile, will remain in Brierley Hill, at their new permanent base at Cable Plaza near the Waterfront.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford, who is responsible for the operational use of the buildings, joined the PCC for a tour of the new station in Dudley and met the officers now working from the facility.

He said: “I’m really pleased with the new Dudley police station. The facilities for our officers and staff are excellent, but more importantly, the facilities for victims and witness are excellent.
“Every penny spent on the project has been invested wisely to ensure the building serves the borough for generations.
“The building is in a great location with good – and improving – public transport links. The people of Dudley have a police station they can be proud of.”
The decision to acquire the site was made by the PCC, based on operational policing recommendations made by the Chief Constable.
The address for the new police station is: Castlegate House, Castlegate Way, Dudley, DY1 4RR. The public contact office is open 8am-4pm.
