#POWERS | Section 60 powers in Birmingham
We will be using Section 60 powers in parts of Washwood Heath and Ward End this evening and overnight.
The powers allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.
It follows recent serious incidents we’re investigating, including a firearms discharge in Ward End Park Road.
Shots were fired at a car at just after 2am on Monday (22 September). No one was hurt in the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
A car also rammed into other vehicles and a property in Washwood Heath Road last Saturday. It’s unknown if these are connected at this stage.
The powers will be in place in the area on the map, from 6pm today (Thursday) until 4am tomorrow morning (Friday).
Section 60 powers allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.
As always, our main focus is on keeping everyone safe.
