Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster has welcomed the launch of a new plan to keep people safe and secure on our public transport network.

The PCC announced the launch of the new Safer Travel Strategy this week, as the region’s nationally leading West Midlands Safer Travel Partnership celebrates its 20th anniversary.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “With just 2.2 crimes or incidents of anti-social behaviour reported for every 100,000 journeys, public transport in the West Midlands is safe for the vast majority of passengers. However, we are committed to continuous improvement.

“In particular, ensuring our public transport network, is safer for women and girls, is a top priority and we will do that by implementing 21 key actions, including combining better design, new technology and dedicated officers.

“The Strategy and Delivery Plan will complement and support the delivery of my Police and Crime Plan, to ensure that we continue to prevent and tackle crime and ASB and keep people safe and secure on our public transport network.”
