The West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner has announced that nearly £5,000 will be injected into a project to enhance the career prospects of young people.
Working in partnership with EmployabilityUK, the project will deliver online workshops focussed on improving confidence, aspirations and work-readiness and is aiming to engage with at least 250 young people over the next 6 months.
To encourage young people to also consider policing as a career, EmployabilityUK have partnered with the Diversity and Inclusion Team at West Midlands Police, to give young people a better understanding of the role of police officers.
This project has been funded through the Community Initiatives Fund, which puts money back into the community after it has been seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Waheed Saleem, who heads up the Community Initiatives Fund, said: “I am really pleased we have been able to support the work of EmployabilityUK with this funding.
“it is really important that we support young people aged 16-24 across the West Midlands, and further afield, with their aspirations for the future and career prospects.
“This is especially significant during this Coronavirus pandemic, when young people in particular are feeling like they have less control over their lives and futures”.
Di Vernon, CEO of EmployabilityUK, said “Young people are facing increasingly challenging times and need our support more than ever.
“Youth unemployment is rising rapidly and the job search is becoming more and more difficult for them.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to help address some of these challenges and do what we can to support as many young people as possible across the region and beyond.”
Marketing students from Birmingham City University will be helping with the marketing of the charity, giving them the opportunity for relevant work experience that will help them once they enter the job market.
