Following the recent announcement by Chris Sims, Chief Constable of West Midlands Police that he will be standing down from the role in early 2016, the search for the next Chief Constable has now begun. David Jamieson is committed to making the process as open as possible and wants to involve the people of the West Midlands too.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson is now inviting local people from within the West Midlands Police Force area to apply to join a Citizens Panel.

The Citizens Panel will help with the assessment of candidates, and provide advice to the Police and Crime Commissioner on the appointment of the next Chief Constable.

To apply to join the panel local people are asked to write to Commissioner detailing why they want to join, what expertise they have and how they have helped promote community safety in their local area. Applications will need to be received by the Commissioner by August 31.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said,

“Appointing a new Chief Constable is a big decision and that’s why I want to have as much input from the people of the West Midlands as possible.

“A great way of getting involved is by applying to join my Citizens Panel who will help assess the candidates for this important role.

“We are a large and diverse region and our police force is the second largest in England, it is therefore only correct that I seek as much involvement from the community as possible to make sure that the public have a Chief Constable who is fully accountable to them as well as myself.

“I want to make sure that people from across the region get involved and that my Citizens Panel has representatives from across every borough of the West Midlands.”

Expressions of interest to join the panel can be emailed to wmpcc@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk or posted to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner West Midlands, Aqua House, 20 Lionel Street, Birmingham B3 1AQ
