The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner says Tipton’s police base has been saved from closure and will be retained, for the benefit of the people and community.
Simon Foster has approved the Chief Constable’s proposal to retain the building, because of the value Mr Foster places on having neighbourhood police officers based there.
The previous plan was to shut Tipton police building, as a consequence of cuts imposed by central government and because it was under used, but extra officers and staff are now being moved there instead. It follows the launch of a new operating model by the Chief Constable, that now sees Force Response based at Tipton.
There are Neighbourhood Policing Teams, Response Officers and other corporate policing teams, based at the Tipton station and that is set to continue.
The plan to retain the building, will ensure Neighbourhood Officers remain within the community they are there to protect and Response officers will also be nearby, should the public have an emergency.
“This is excellent news for Tipton”, said Simon Foster, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.
“When I was elected, I pledged to rebuild community policing – to keep people, families, businesses and communities, safe and secure – and this will help to do exactly that.
“I am delighted that Neighbourhood and Response Officers will now have a base in Tipton, within the community they serve.”
