The results of the by-election for a new West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner will be announced today (Friday 22 August 2014) following yesterday’s election. There are four candidates standing for election:
- David Jamieson (Labour)
- Les Jones (Conservative)
- Ayoub Khan (Liberal Democrat)
- Keith Rowe (UK Independence Party)
Supplementary Voting
PCC elections use the Supplementary Vote system, which is different to a normal election.
Supplementary voting works as follows. Voters should mark on the ballot paper their first choice and can – if they wish, it’s not compulsory – mark on the ballot paper their second choice too.
If a candidate receives more than half of all the first choice votes, they are elected immediately.
As the results below show, in this election David Jamieson received 50.83% of the first preference votes, and was elected West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.
