Walsall is the latest place in the West Midlands to get a new weapon surrender bin.
The PCC, Simon Foster, decided to install the new safe and secure box in the town of Willenhall after talking to locals about the idea.
It brings the total number of PCC installed bins to 25 across our region.
The knife bins are available for people to dispose of knives, blades and other dangerous objects.
The bin has been placed in Willenhall Memorial Park.
The roll out of the bins is part of a concerted effort by the PCC, Simon Foster, to prevent and tackle violence across the West Midlands. All the knives and weapons deposited into the bins are destroyed.
Thousands of knives have already been placed into the existing bins, with each weapon deposited, potentially saving a life.
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “These bins are just one measure I am taking to get knives off our streets.
“The bins are providing people with a legal and safe way to dispose of knives, which they shouldn’t be carrying. Every knife placed in a surrender bin is potentially a life saved.
“The weapon surrender bins are part of a much wider push to reduce violence and knife crime in the West Midlands. The Violence Reduction Partnership, set up in 2019, is at the forefront of this work.
“I am committed to constant and unremitting action to prevent and tackle violence, protect people and save lives.”
