An event designed to showcase the work the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has been doing to increase fairness, diversity and equality will be held later this month.
The Fairness and Belonging Conference will showcase what the PCC and West Midlands Police have been doing to increase equality for black communities and to build trust and confidence with the force.
The free event will include an international speaker talking about civility and how this can impact relationships and communication with the police.
There will also be a national overview with speakers focusing on work that has been done as well as future plans the PCC and WMP have on race, equality and underrepresented communities.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and state their opinions.
Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner Tom McNeil, who will be speaking at the event, said: “This will be an excellent opportunity for us to reflect on the work that has been taking place within the Office of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner and also West Midlands Police.
“It will also be an opportunity to hear about progress made and also to hear from underrepresented groups, talk about how we can tackle racial injustice and disparity and more importantly, we want to hear from the local community, partners and other organisations about what more we must do to promote racial equity and equality.”
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “I am committed to advancing fairness, diversity and equality and building trust and confidence between people and communities and West Midlands Police.
“This Fairness and Belonging event will be an invaluable opportunity to review progress made, but also to determine what further action we must take to advance fairness, diversity and equality.”
