The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner says he plans to personally meet and thank the police officers who brought a Coventry siege to a safe conclusion.
Simon Foster has been regularly briefed by senior officers on the situation in Earlsdon, after a father barricaded himself and his 8 year old son into the property on Sunday.
The PCC is also sending his gratitude to the people of the area who have had to endure disruption for much of this week, including the closure of a local primary school and some businesses.
Specialist firearms officers forcibly entered the house just after 8:30pm last night and detained the 41 year old man, who is now in custody and being assessed by mental health professionals.
The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster said: “I would like to place on record my thanks, admiration and appreciation for the work carried out by the highly skilled police officers and staff of West Midlands Police who brought this dangerous siege to a safe conclusion.
“At all times they kept the safety and welfare of the 8 year old boy at the forefront of their minds and I’m pleased and relieved to say this story has had a happy ending as a result.
“Their professionalism, patience and determination is clear for us all to see.
“I’d also like to extend my gratitude to the people of Earlsdon, who have been so understanding at a very difficult time.
“I’m pleased to say, thanks to West Midlands Police’s resolution of this incident, people in the area can now get on with their busy lives and return to normality.”
