West Midlands Police have paid tribute to super StreetWatch groups for their ongoing commitment to help keep their communities safe.
The force – joined by West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, honoured the teams and individuals who are making a difference as a visible presence to help deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
We’re always indebted to every single one of our 1,600 StreetWatch volunteers who work with us to protect neighbourhoods across the region.
We recently held an awards ceremony at Tally Ho! to highlight some of the fantastic work and commitment we have seen.
This included presentations to those who’ve been a volunteer for at least five years and the dedication they’ve shown.
There were some StreetWatch members who clocked up almost 80 miles near the NEC during the Commonwealth Games.
While a number of groups have been friendly and reassuring presence such as Halesowen Town and Beacon Strollers. In total more than 20 awards were handed out.
Sam O’Dell, StreetWatch co-ordinator within the force, said: “We’re grateful to every single one of our StreetWatch members. They all make a significant contribution to help make our communities better and safer places.
“It was wonderful to reflect on their efforts during the awards evening which was based on nominations. We’re really proud of every Street Watch group and we’d love to see even more established across the region.”
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: “It was impressive and inspiring to meet so many of our StreetWatch volunteers – they are playing an important role in the prevention of crime, building trust and confidence between the police and residents and contributing to community resilience.
“What StreetWatch volunteers do really matters – it makes a positive difference and ensures the West Midlands is a safer place for all of us to live in.”
