Reason for Authority (Brief Summary for Publication)
We currently have Section 60 powers in place in and around Walsall town centre after two incidents of disorder earlier today (23 June).   A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the arm near Park Street at around 4.15pm. Thankfully his injuries are not life-threatening.   Then at just before 6.30pm we were alerted to disorder where weapons were brandished in Park Street. A man in his 20s was discovered with a head injury which was again not life-threatening.   It’s unclear at this stage whether these are connected and investigations are ongoing.   We now have Section 60 powers in place until just before 7am tomorrow.   These allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.   As always, our main focus is on keeping everyone safe.   Find out more about Stop and Search Why we use stop and search: Stop and search | West Midlands Police   If you have any information on crime involving weapons contact us via call 101. In an emergency dial 999.
