Responding to an article in yesterday’s Times discussing the Police’s approach to domestic abuse, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said:
“West Midlands Police will continue to prioritise investigations into domestic abuse. That is not up for debate, and is not being debated by the Chief Constable. In recent times, partly due to the joint no excuse for abuse campaign led by myself, the police and partners, there has been a huge increase in reporting of domestic abuse in the West Midlands.
“Few forces have done more than West Midlands Police on this front. On top of doubling the number of officers in our public protection unit – that investigates domestic abuse – we are investing over £1.5million in supporting victims of domestic abuse.
“The increase in reporting of domestic abuse is very welcome and we all want it to continue. This debate is not about the police doing less, it is about calling on other statutory partners to do more and for the government to better resource other agencies to support the police’s work.”
